Charred Cedar Boards Inspire New Design

Founded in 2007, LASVIT is a crystal manufacturer and design company renowned for its collaborations with star designers such as the Campana Brothers, Nendo, and Ross Lovegrove. The company has now released a lighting collection designed by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma. The 'YAKISUGI' collection draws inspiration from yakisugi, a traditional Japanese building material where the surface of cedar boards is charred to increase durability.

The unique texture, with its charred, uneven surface, is imprinted onto the glass by pressing the charred wood onto the hand-blown prototype of YAKISUGI. Each piece possesses a distinct character. This 'transparent block of wood' gently illuminates the space.
