Beauty in Texture

Cast iron is made by pouring molten metal at high temperatures into a mold, then cooling and refining it. Because complex shapes can be formed in one piece, it is used for industrial machine parts, household goods like kettles and vases, and kitchen items such as frying pans.

HinoLab M is an interior brand based in Fukuoka that releases interior products utilizing cast iron.

What HinoLab M values is the "texture" of cast iron. While possessing the gravitas and presence that iron exudes, it also expresses a warmth and delicate softness through cast iron's characteristic curves and the surface texture known as "cast skin." The profound charm, evoking affection and nostalgia through wear and rust that appear during use as tools, resides in HinoLab M's products.

The manufacturing process leverages solid craftsmanship, backed by 99 years of experience in cast iron. This includes casting technology for thin-walled, high-strength products using spheroidal graphite cast iron, control of sand composition, management of iron composition including trace elements like manganese and copper, and temperature control of the iron during production.

Using the rust of cast iron aged 50 years as a benchmark, they arrived at the "blackening technique" after over 100 prototypes. Based on this, they apply unique surface treatments and polishing. Each piece is finished by hand with meticulous care, faithfully reproducing the designer's intended shapes and textures.

The lineup, including trays, letter racks, and pen stands, features sophisticated products that are both impactful and blend seamlessly into any space. Three types of finishes are available: "Rust Finish," "Clear Finish," and "Color Coating," allowing you to choose your preference.

The "Rust Finish" reproduces the black rust that forms over long periods. After manual polishing, a special treatment generates black rust, characterized by its classic atmosphere.

The "Clear Finish" features a clear coating on the surface, highlighting the inherent texture of the cast iron material. Like the rust finish, it is polished by hand, with its worn appearance being a key charm.

The "Color Coating" is a finish applied with colored paint. Black is offered as a standard color, lending a modern and simple aesthetic.

HinoLab M beautifully expresses the "character" of cast iron, which has been crafted since ancient times. If you are considering an update to your interior, these are items worth considering.
