'IKI -by KOHEI KIRIMOTO' is a new product brand that combines the sensibilities of emerging global creators with traditional techniques, from Wajima Kirimoto, a long-established maker of Wajima lacquerware.

An exhibition is being held at Isetan Shinjuku until March 13 (Tuesday).

The project for 'IKI -by KOHEI KIRIMOTO' began with the theme of redefining the appeal of lacquer, an ancient Japanese traditional material, from scientific and product design perspectives, while incorporating the sensibilities of contemporary creators.

As the first series of products, five items have been created: 'The Cup Closest to Human Skin,' 'The Bowl Closest to Human Skin,' 'The Bowl Closest to Human Skin,' and 'The Plate Large/Small Closest to Human Skin.' These leverage the characteristics of lacquer as a living material that breathes and its texture, which is close to human skin.

The representative of this brand is Kohei Kirimoto, the son of Taiichi Kirimoto, the representative of Wajima Kirimoto. The project aims to expand the brand overseas in the future.

Representing contemporary creators who continue to generate new value, the brand also welcomes Takahiro Miura of The Breakthrough Company GO, Yuta Inoue of QUANTUM, and Yuki Tokuno of TBWA HAKUHODO.

The evolving value of traditional culture. 'IKI -by KOHEI KIRIMOTO' is a brand to watch.
