An Exquisite Piece Adorned with Intricate Engraving and Jewels
Since antiquity, the "spider," a metaphor for the creative act of writing, has been a recurring motif. Literary works, woven with carefully chosen words, are often described as being "like a spider's web" due to their intricate nature.
This motif has appeared repeatedly in literature since Ovid, the ancient Greek poet, featured Arachne in his "Metamorphoses." From the 18th century to the early 20th century, it was frequently explored in literary works, appearing in the writings of poets like Valéry and Mallarmé, and essayist Francis Ponge.
Montblanc, paying homage to the literary and artistic significance of the spider, first released spider-themed items in the 1920s. Approximately a century later, in 2018, Montblanc once again focused on the "spider."
The company released the "Montblanc High Artistry Heritage Metamorphosis Limited Edition 1," a unique piece crafted as a single item worldwide.
Just as a spider weaves its threads into a silken tapestry, Montblanc's master artisans have created a beautiful fountain pen. Combining cutting-edge tools for gemstone cutting with intricate engraving techniques, the pen has been finished as a true work of art.
The skeletonized body and cap, crafted from 18-karat white gold, capture the beauty of delicate construction. Each piece is hand-engraved and polished. The body and cap, adorned with a total of 13 carats of full pavé diamonds in organic patterns, feature a three-dimensional spider made of pear-cut diamonds. Its legs are further set with 16 diamonds.
This spider ornamentation is detachable and can be worn as a bracelet or brooch. A spider is also set at the cap top, and the barrel features a large, over 5-carat brilliant-cut diamond that radiates light. Its two eyes are also crafted from brilliant-cut diamonds.
A baguette-cut diamond is set at the tip of the clip. Removing the cap reveals the 18-karat solid white gold nib. The nib is finished with finely engraved spiderweb motifs and two brilliant-cut diamonds.
This is truly a resurrected masterpiece, embodying the literary and artistic value of the spider, Montblanc's craftsmanship, and the exquisite artistry of fine jewelry.
