Limited Production of 22 Units Annually

RINN Inc. has launched the "Modern Cat Tree NEKO," a cat tree distinguished by its carefully selected materials and elegant design.

The project began with the idea: "Could we create beautiful play furniture for cats that would fit into modernist architecture or art museums?" Product designer Hiroshi Komiyama designed the piece to function as an objet d'art that blends into interiors while ensuring a private space for the cat.


The exterior is covered in vertical poles of domestic natural wood, with subtle gaps between them offering a hint of connection between cat and human, creating a sense of unity. A rotating shaft is built into part of the outer casing, allowing it to open and close like a door, which is also convenient for easy cleaning.

The base is made of natural marble, inspired by the sight of cats lying on the entrance floor to regulate their body temperature. This is a white marble quarried in the Drama region of northeastern Greece, featuring flowing grey patterns on a white background.

Hemp rope is wound around the support columns for the cat's scratching needs. This is high-grade domestic hemp from a long-established manufacturer with over 100 years of history. Scratching is an essential function for cats, helping them maintain sharp claws, relax, relieve stress, change their mood, and mark their territory.

The assembly is crafted by artisans in Hida, who skillfully work with domestic hardwoods, considered difficult to handle. With a history spanning over 1300 years, they have developed Japan's furniture industry by incorporating Western bentwood techniques, utilizing advanced joinery that requires not a single nail.


The cat tree's wood is selected by "Hida no Mori de Kuma wa Odoru" (Bears Dance in the Hida Forest), a company that creates new value from forests, and assembled by Masaki Ito, a furniture craftsman who lives with cats.

This is an unprecedented product that combines superior design and cat-friendly functionality, expressing a fusion of Eastern wood culture and Western stone culture.
