Craftsmanship That Stimulates the Japanese Aesthetic

Uniquely Stylish Gift Envelopes

TIER, meaning "one who ties, one who connects," is a brand gaining attention for its philosophy of connecting things like mizuhiki (decorative cords) and paper, tradition and modernity, and people. TIER creates gift envelopes designed for mass production with an artistic sensibility.

Connecting Infinite Material Combinations, Tying Mizuhiki, Bridging Tradition and Modernity

Chie Nagao, the designer, shares, "I've been involved with mizuhiki for about 10 years, and I find it fascinating every day how, when it comes to buying gift envelopes, the Japanese DNA strongly emerges, even in people who don't typically pay much attention to Japanese culture."

She continues, "We aim to add a touch of festivity to everyday life, and to spread happiness to those around us on special occasions. TIER creates items that are refined and possess a subtle, sophisticated flair. We hope they become a catalyst for fostering connections and smiles." Through a new perspective on mizuhiki, TIER crafts items that subtly stimulate the Japanese aesthetic of 'iki' and 'share'—a sense of chic and stylishness—that remains latent even as times change, and which people may not consciously recognize in their daily lives.

"Katte ni Series"

The "Envelopes | Stylish Series" features motifs such as a bow-tied golden turtle, a plum blossom ornament resembling a hair accessory, and the robust evergreen pine, all suitable for year-round use. It also includes special New Year's motifs like battledore and shuttlecock, New Year's decorations, and kagami mochi (traditional New Year's rice cakes).

The "Envelopes | Stylish Series," with its vivid main colors, presents designs like paintings, including the 'Noshi' (gift ribbon). One design evokes a imperial carriage in full bloom against a white background. Another features blue hues of Mt. Fuji and the sunrise rising into a clear sky. The Noshi incorporates pine, and the overall design uses mizuhiki to represent the classic motif of pine, bamboo, and plum, creating a series that harmonizes with the modern world.

The "Envelopes and Mini Envelopes | Stylish Series" are sold by Marks (http://www.marks.jp/) and are available at Loft and other stationery and variety stores nationwide.
