The "ALCOHO-LOCK" is equipped with an alcohol detection sensor and Bluetooth® in the lock body. It syncs with a smartphone running the free dedicated app. By blowing into the sensor on the lock, if alcohol is detected, the app will display an alert along with the alcohol concentration level, prompting the user to "walk the bicycle home" before unlocking.

The "ALCOHO-LOCK" was developed through a collaboration between Grey Worldwide, the Japanese subsidiary of the Grey Group with offices in 96 countries and 154 cities worldwide, and KOOWHO. KOOWHO provided overall supervision, Grey Worldwide handled planning, concept development, and interface design, Grey Group Singapore managed technical supervision, and Indian IT company Amsyt Technologies was responsible for development and implementation.

Alerts Also Sent to the User's Partner

Furthermore, if a partner (family, lover, etc.) of the "ALCOHO-LOCK" user is registered in advance, an alert containing the alcohol concentration level and detection location will be sent to them when alcohol is detected in the user's breath.

This feature was implemented not only to directly persuade partners to "stop dangerous drunk cycling" but also based on the idea that reminding someone of the presence of a loved one can help deter dangerous drunk cycling.


Dangerous cycling that disregards laws and manners has become a social issue, and drunk cycling is a clear violation of the Road Traffic Act. Although the related law was revised on June 1, 2015, prompting drivers to renew their commitment to compliance, completely changing one's mindset may not be easy. We hope that "ALCOHO-LOCK," which aims to reform awareness through technology, will make a significant impact on the current situation where drunk driving is often taken lightly.
