Discover Brazil's Creative and Innovative "Now"
This year marks the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Brazil, and the Brazil Fair, which aims to showcase the country's appeal beyond just carnivals, samba, soccer, and coffee, is being held for the second time following last year's event. The fair presents the "now" of a nation surrounded by vast nature, brimming with original and innovative ideas, as filtered through Isetan Shinjuku.
The main venue, The Stage on the first floor of the Main Building, themed "Encountering Brazil's Great Nature," features items that evoke the Amazon's natural splendor. These include works by the Brazil-born documentary photographer Sebastião Salgado, bio-jewelry brand "Coloridas" using "Capim Dourado," or golden grass, native to Brazil, and accessories by "Francesca Romana Diana," created by an Italian designer captivated by Brazilian natural stones. Also on display is the sustainable product line "Gilson Martins." Visitors can experience the nature of Brazil, a country that lives in harmony with and loves the natural world.
Key Figures Connecting Japan and Brazil Attend the Ceremony
At the opening ceremony, where samba was performed by Amanda Caroline, who also graced the event alongside Mauricio de Sousa, the creator of the manga "Monica's Gang," and designer Jun Nakao, she remarked, "You can also enjoy sweets made with cupuaçu, a beloved Amazonian super fruit. Please try cupuaçu, which is poised to be the next big sensation after açaí."
André Corrêa do Lago, the Brazilian Ambassador to Japan, who was among the guests, stated, "Japan and Brazil share a strong mutual attraction. Isetan has discovered many new brands, and through this Brazil Fair, I am confident that the more you learn about Brazil, the more you will come to love it."
Satoshi Oonuma, President and CEO of Mitsukoshi Isetan Holdings, said, "This second Brazil Fair, following last year's success, focuses on nature and introduces Brazilian fashion, pop culture, sports, and culinary traditions. We will also be holding events at Mitsukoshi Ginza and Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, allowing more customers to experience the charm of Brazil."
Discover the Latest in Art x Fashion
Furthermore, on the fifth floor of the Main Building, which primarily features lifestyle goods, the "BRAZIL ART MARKET" is being held at Center Park / The Stage #5. Mame's Roasting Factory, specializing in freshly roasted coffee, will offer Brazilian coffee beans varying by origin and roasting method. The venue will also showcase items that blend art and fashion, such as works by prominent Brazilian embroidery artists and interior decor made from repurposed burlap sacks of Brazilian coffee beans.
