A Sustainable Business Model Through a Made-to-Order System
Wallpaper designs, rich in expression and diversity, are recognized internationally as elements that enhance spaces. To expand their potential in Japan, the wallpaper brand "WhO" was launched in 2015 under the production of the creative unit "graf." Today, we introduce its latest work, the wallpaper "SPLASH" by graphic designer Ayame Ohno.

The wallpaper brand "WhO" has been running a project titled "CREATORS CIRCLE" since November 2020. This initiative involves creators designing wallpapers through introductions from one creator to another.
The project began with graphic designer Hideyuki Yamano, one of the founding members, who then passed the baton to fashion designer Seiko Yukiura. Now, graphic designer Ayame Ohno has taken over.
Her design, "SPLASH," is inspired by "the moment water splashes and its reflection on the water's surface." The dynamism of nature, as captured by the designer, is expressed through beautiful and soothing graphics. It will serve as an accent not only in residential spaces but also in offices and commercial areas.
From an SDGs perspective, the product also uses next-generation ink that is gentle to people and the environment, containing no VOCs or harmful air pollutants. Furthermore, it adopts a made-to-order system, addressing concerns about excess inventory and overproduction.
Ayame Ohno
Graphic designer and collage artist. After completing her doctoral program in Graphic Design at Tama Art University Graduate School, she has been developing artwork for various media, including design products, books, advertisements, and textiles, with "cut & paste" as her primary focus since 2008. Her major exhibitions and projects include "EQUILIBRIUM" (Venice / 2019) and "Appealing to the Populous" (Berlin / 2017). Her art book is "There's nothing behind it" (DOOKS), and she co-authored "Cut, Paste, Collective" (BNN Shinsha).https://ayameono.com/
