Design Concept: "A Soft Square"

Amidst the severe deforestation progressing on a global scale, more trees is a forest conservation organization that strives to promote "carbon offsetting" by enhancing CO2 absorption capacity through forestation.

more trees, comprising five initiators including Ryuichi Sakamoto, and over 100 members, also engages in activities to create products that promote the use of domestic timber, with a portion of the sales being returned to forest restoration projects both domestically and internationally.

A Hinoki cypress cutting board, designed by Naoto Fukasawa, a product designer active worldwide and a supporter of more trees, has been newly launched as a more trees product.



The cutting board, with its beautiful, soft, rounded curves that are neither perfectly round nor square, is characterized by its simple yet elegant design and comfortable grip. It is not only easy to use as a cutting board but can also be used as a serving board for bread and cheese, or as a pot stand for placing pots and teapots directly on the table.

Furthermore, it can transform into a warm tray by placing your favorite cosmetics or amenities in spaces outside the kitchen, such as a washroom or powder room. It is a versatile item that gently accompanies your life and brings comfort, depending on your ideas.

Regarding the design concept of this product, designer Naoto Fukasawa commented, "A cutting board needs a direction for use; a square shape provides direction but has a rigid impression. A circle lacks direction. Therefore, I created a 'soft square' by combining a circle and a square. The wood grain is slightly rounded, designed to make contact at a single point when leaned against a flat surface."



The material used is Shimanto Hinoki cypress. Shimanto Hinoki cypress is particularly rich in oil among Japanese cypress varieties, offering excellent water drainage and resistance to discoloration. Its strong antibacterial properties suppress the growth of bacteria and mold, allowing you to enjoy its clean feel and elegant aroma for a long time.
