Emphasizing the Contrast of Light and Shadow

Frank Lloyd Wright, a titan of 20th-century architecture, was active across a wide range of fields, including not only buildings but also furniture, lighting, and textiles. The lighting fixture "Taliesin" is one of his masterpieces.

The name Taliesin refers to the collective name of the site in Spring Green, Wisconsin, where Wright built his home, design studio, and other structures. It was named after the Welsh poet Taliesin, as Wright's maternal grandfather had emigrated from Wales to America.

The "Taliesin Pendant," designed by Wright himself, serves as the prototype for this lighting fixture. It was created in 1952 when the Hillside Home School theater on the property was destroyed by fire and subsequently rebuilt. This product is composed of multiple blocks that cover the lamp, and the light emitted upwards and downwards is reflected by baffles, creating a three-dimensional lighting effect.


While the standard models are finished with a warm touch using cherry or walnut wood, the new "Black Edition" is crafted from chestnut wood with a single-color black finish. The support column, typically painted Cherokee Red, is also finished in solid black for the "Black Edition." This further accentuates the balanced, geometric silhouette. The beauty of the contrast woven by light and shadow is undeniable, and even when unlit, its abstract sculptural form exudes the presence of an exceptional design product.
