A Stool Crafted from Oak Wine Barrels
The "Baco" stool, designed by Patricia Urquiola, was created as part of the permanent collection for the "Barrique, the third life of wood" project, which revitalizes wood and people by recovering and reusing wine barrels.
The Barrique Project, which uses barrels as material and showcases exceptional craftsmanship, features designs by renowned architects and designers, with production handled by young artisans at San Patrignano Design Lab. Since the project's inception in 2012, over 40 works have become part of the permanent collection.
International Designers Offer Pro Bono Designs
Named "Baco" for its rounded shape resembling a silkworm, the stool highlights the beauty created by the interplay of its wine-colored interior and the light oak exterior, enhancing their visual synergy. In addition to a novel and satirical three-seater design that expresses an interesting sense of unity between those who sit together, a single-seater stool is also available.
San Patrignano, responsible for the manufacturing, is an organization that supports young people facing drug addiction issues. Since its founding in 1978 by Vincenzo Muccioli, over 25,000 individuals have passed through its doors, welcomed as "family" and provided with medical care, legal assistance, educational opportunities, and vocational training.
Products from the San Patrignano woodworking shop have featured designs offered pro bono by prominent designers such as Karim Rashid, Alessandro Mendini, Michele De Lucchi, Carlo Colombo, Daniel Libeskind, Aldo Cibic, and Mario Botta. Patricia Urquiola, like her predecessors, provided her design services free of charge.
