Monma Tansu Store, a long-established Sendai Tansu maker, launches its new project "monmaya +"
New furniture by Tomoko Azumi and Riko Takahashi
Founded in Sendai in 1872, Monma Tansu Store has been manufacturing Sendai Tansu in the same location for 140 years. This venerable maker of Sendai Tansu is now launching a new project, "monmaya +." The inaugural collection features a console table, designed by internationally acclaimed designer Tomoko Azumi and artist Riko Takahashi, that fully leverages Sendai Tansu techniques to fit seamlessly into contemporary spaces.

Console table unveiled at Design Tide 2012
The "monmaya +" project, initiated by Monma Tansu Store this autumn, brings together designers who share a common vision. It is a new endeavor that challenges global craftsmanship, transcending borders and ethnicities while inheriting traditional techniques and sentiments.
The console table, presented at Design Tide 2012, features furniture design by Tomoko Azumi and decorative hardware by Riko Takahashi.
Sendai Tansu, preserved and nurtured by generations past, embodies a fusion of Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship that continues to captivate many, even as time progresses. We invite you to focus on the convergence of tradition and new sensibility, born from the contemporary era.
