Transforming everyday dining into an artistic space――DIESEL LIVING, the home collection line from DIESEL, embodies the brand's philosophy, offering "premium casual living." The second collaboration with Italian interior and decoration brand SELETTI has debuted in Japan for the first time during Tokyo Design Week at "DIESEL SHIBUYA."

Unique ideas unbound by convention
The "DIESEL LIVING with SELETTI" tableware collection, DIESEL's first foray into this category, was born from the meeting of two men.
One is Andrea Rosso, son of Diesel founder Renzo Rosso. He serves as Creative Director, overseeing Diesel's lifestyle brand collaborations that result in products like living collections, fragrances, watches, and eyewear.
The other is Stefano Seletti, Art Director of Seletti. He is also the son of founder Romano Seletti and has been creating tableware collections using new materials since the 1990s.
"DIESEL LIVING with SELETTI" blends Diesel's interpretation of premium with Seletti's history and craftsmanship. Its first collection, "MACHINE COLLECTION," inspired by tools, won the "Elle Deco International Design Award 2015," garnering significant attention.
The second collection, slated for release next spring, is "COSMIC DINER," a tableware series inspired by the cosmos, capturing the ethereal beauty of the nine planets, the sun, and the moon. This unique collection, which "creates a cosmic space on the table," has already received the "Wallpaper Design Awards 2015."

Expressing "Joy" with irony and toughness
――Andrea, what do you find most appealing about Seletti, representing Diesel?
Andrea RossoSeletti's products are often creative and bring a smile to your face at first glance. I appreciate that they are filled with Seletti's unique irony and joy, which resonates with Diesel.
――Stefano, what do you find most appealing about Diesel?
Stefano SelettiI've worn Diesel since I was a child and I'm still a fan of their denim. I'm genuinely happy to be part of this collaboration as a fan. I believe this collection retains our irony while adding Diesel's DNA of toughness.
――Andrea, how would you describe Stefano as a person?
Andrea RossoWe met through mutual friends and became close instantly. During a barbecue I hosted, he was very skilled with knives, and I thought it would be interesting to create tableware together. The conversation naturally turned to business.
――Stefano, what kind of personality do you perceive in Andrea?
Stefano SelettiAndrea is such a close friend that it feels surreal to be working together. I'm proud that we can introduce "COSMIC DINER" to the world like this. One piece in the collection, the "METEORITE GLASSES," is inspired by meteorites. The glasses reveal their texture more as you pour darker liquids, and they feature a double-wall construction to maintain temperature. We have endless time to passionately discuss ideas like these.
Even failed dishes look delicious
――Could you tell us about the creative inspiration behind "COSMIC DINER"?
Andrea Rosso"Cosmic" was originally a Diesel idea; we've had space-motif textiles and moon-designed mirrors before. This time, Stefano and I started with the idea of creating "plates with planetarium patterns." The rocket-shaped salt and pepper grinders, "ROCKETS SALT AND PEPPER GRINDERS," are fun, aren't they? We truly enjoyed creating them.
――How would you like "COSMIC DINER" to be used?
Andrea RossoI've already used the plates at home, and even slightly failed dishes look delicious when served on them (laughs). It's fun to get creative with cooking inspired by the plates, or you can simply display them as interior decor. My favorite is the "Moon," and I also like "Jupiter." I hope people will use them for special dinners.
――What is Stefano's favorite piece?
Stefano SelettiAmong "COSMIC DINER," it's the brass sugar box. Having it on the table instantly elevates the entire setting, which I love. I also like the "Moon" plate, and actually, that plate was the most challenging to create.
We print onto a black plate and then fire it. This process is significantly more difficult than using a white plate. What I love about "COSMIC DINER" is that it naturally sparks conversation the moment you see the collection.

The creative origins of two creators
――Andrea, what are the origins of your creativity?
Andrea RossoWhile work is a team effort, personally, in addition to gathering various information, I draw influence from street scenes, such as flea markets, art exhibitions, and music events.
――Are you also influenced by your father?
My father (Renzo Rosso)? What I respect most about him is his refusal to compromise. During the development of the first collection, "MACHINE COLLECTION," for "DIESEL LIVING with SELETTI," he gave us constant feedback (laughs). My father encourages my creative endeavors and instills in me the energy to pursue perfection.
――Stefano, what are the origins of your creativity?
Stefano SelettiIn my younger days, I traveled and drew inspiration from external stimuli. Now that I have a family, my focus has shifted to expressing my own lifestyle outwards.
Diesel's future direction
――Andrea, where is DIESEL LIVING headed?
Andrea RossoDIESEL LIVING will continue to evolve by finding new partners in each category, including furniture, tableware, and fabrics. While clothing is a tool for self-expression, lifestyle exists as an extension of that, and DIESEL LIVING aims to embody it naturally.
We aspire for DIESEL LIVING to be a brand that "lives and grows" with people, present in all 360 degrees of their lives. In the future, we aim to realize "360-degree lifestyle expression" through ventures like cafes, apartments, and hotels.
