Exploring the Relationship Between Light and Time Using the Brand's Unique "Base Plate"

In April 2014, Citizen unveiled the installation "LIGHT is TIME" at "Milan Design Week" (commonly known as Milan Salone), a celebration of design held in Milan, Italy.

It received two awards at the "Milano Design Award 2014": the "Best Entertaining" award and the "Best Sound" award.

This marked the first time in the award's history, established four years prior, that a single company had won two categories simultaneously, creating quite a buzz.

This homecoming exhibition features a reconfigured "LIGHT is TIME" installation. Using the "base plate" (jita), a fundamental component that supports all parts of a watch, it creates a fantastical space of light.

The installation was created by Tsuyoshi Tane (DGT), an architect based in Paris, and Citizen's design team. Yutaka Endo (LUFTZUG) provided the lighting and sound design, brilliantly embodying the concept that "time is light, and light is time."

Citizen's latest wristwatches will also be on display at the venue.
Visitors can experience a space of "light and time" unique to Citizen, which has continuously pursued the challenge of "transforming light into time" through its Eco-Drive watches that generate power from light.
