Experience Carl Hansen & Son's History and Worldview

Inheriting traditional craftsmanship while embracing the advantages of factory production──Carl Hansen & Son is celebrated for its furniture that brings out the natural beauty of wood. Established in 1949, the company collaborated with Hans J. Wegner, a distinguished furniture craftsman, to create numerous masterpieces, including the 'Y Chair' and the 'Wing Chair', solidifying its position as a leading Danish furniture manufacturer.

The newly opened Carl Hansen & Son Japan Flagship Store showcases works by Kaare Klint and Mogens Koch of the esteemed Rud. Rasmussen studio on the first floor. The second floor features furniture by renowned designers such as Hans J. Wegner and Ole Wanscher from Carl Hansen & Son. The collection includes chairs, tables, easy chairs, sofas, bookcases, and Le Klint lighting fixtures.

A Rich Array of Material and Finish Combinations

The 'Y Chair', favored by the Japanese and fitting seamlessly into Japanese interior spaces, is a masterpiece that perfectly embodies Hans J. Wegner's design. Its smooth, elegant rear leg form, the graceful curve of the bentwood armrests, and the comfortable paper cord seat exemplify its iconic status.

While the production process involves machine processing, the overall assembly and the weaving of the paper cord are meticulously handled by skilled artisans. The variety of options, including frame wood types, finishes, paints, and paper cord colors, is exceptionally rich, attracting many fans who cherish and repair their pieces for long-term use.

At the Carl Hansen & Son Japan Flagship Store, customers can select from a wide range of material and finish combinations for most of the displayed products, including the Y Chair.

The New 'CH88', Commemorating Wegner's Centenary

The entrance exhibition space on the first floor displays the 'Heritage Chair' designed by the legendary Fritz Hansen. On the second floor, visitors will find the 'DREAM CHAIR' designed by acclaimed architect Tadao Ando, which garnered significant attention after its prototype was unveiled at the 2012 Milan Salone, as well as the limited-edition 'Shell Chair' with its beautiful and striking form. The store offers not only reissued classics but also products that reflect contemporary times.

Additionally, the elusive 'CH88' chair, designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1955 with only prototypes produced at the time, will be available from Wednesday, April 2nd. Priced from ¥46,000 (excluding tax), it can be chosen with beech or oak wood, a stainless steel, black, or chrome frame, and a seat in plywood, leather, or fabric.
