Exploring the Source of Contemporary Art
Suzuki focuses on subtle discoveries and natural phenomena hidden in everyday life, creating works using familiar materials and technology. His pieces are filled with the wonder and sparkle that everyone experiences in childhood.
You may recall his "Zipper Ship," a boat shaped like a zipper that sailed the sea during the Setouchi International Art Festival in 2010. We are keen to explore the origins of Suzuki's creative inspiration.
YASUHIRO SUZUKI
Born in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture in 1979. Graduated from Tokyo Zokei University, Department of Design, in 2001. In 2001, his video installation "Perspective of the Playground Equipment," which utilized the globe jungle gym at NHK Digital Stadium, won the grand prize for the year. Following an exhibition at the globally renowned media art festival Ars Electronica, he has been invited to numerous exhibitions and art festivals both domestically and internationally.
He creates works that evoke universal empathy, using subtle discoveries in everyday life as motifs, and has exhibited in numerous exhibitions and public spaces worldwide. In addition to his solo work, he has also collaborated with university researchers on many projects.
Notable works include "Perspective of the Playground Equipment" (2001), "Blinking Leaves" (2003), "Zipper Ship" (2004), and "Person of Air" (2007).
