New GA-F Platform and Aluminum Body Panels Achieve 200kg Weight Reduction

Since its North American debut in 1996, the Lexus LX has been recognized as a flagship SUV that balances drivability and refinement for any road worldwide with its core strengths of reliability, durability, and off-road capability. As of the end of August 2021, it has been sold in approximately 50 countries, with cumulative sales reaching around 500,000 units.
The new LX's body structure inherits the traditional body-on-frame construction while adopting the lightweight, high-rigidity new GA-F platform. By using aluminum for the hood, door panels, and roof, it achieves a weight reduction of approximately 200kg.
The exterior retains the 2,850mm wheelbase and ground clearance from the first generation. A distinctive feature is the front spindle grille, which now has a seamless structure without a frame, created by seven floating bars. The sides are emphasized by Lexus' largest-ever 22-inch forged aluminum wheels.
The interior features a two-tiered instrument panel designed to appear thin, creating a sense of being comfortably enveloped. It is equipped with a dual display system, featuring a 12.3-inch and a 7-inch screen stacked vertically. New features include a back underfloor view and a fingerprint-authentication start button for anti-theft purposes. In addition to a standard two-row configuration, a three-row version offers a "Multi Seat Arrange" function, allowing all seat positions to be adjusted electronically.
The powertrain consists of a 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo gasoline engine producing a maximum output of 305kW (415ps) and a maximum torque of 650Nm. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with full-time four-wheel drive, featuring lock-up engagement in almost all speed ranges except during initial acceleration.
To balance off-road capability with on-road stability, the front suspension uses a high-mount double-wishbone setup, while the rear employs a reliable trailing-arm axle. Rebound travel has been increased by +15mm and +20mm respectively. Equipped with AHC (Active Height Control suspension), AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension System), an electronic control brake system (ECB), and an electric power steering system (EPS), the vehicle pursues driving performance that allows drivers to fully enjoy the Lexus driving experience.
For off-road driving, it features "Multi-Terrain Select," allowing the driver to choose from six modes. The "AUTO mode," a Lexus first, analyzes the road surface conditions using various sensor data to optimize brake hydraulic pressure, driving force, and suspension control. Additionally, "Crawl Control" automatically manages driving force and brake hydraulic pressure according to five speed settings. This enables extremely low-speed driving on rough terrain using only steering input, enhancing the ability to escape from being stuck and reducing the burden on the drivetrain.
These fundamental enhancements and the adoption of a new powertrain are also credited with improving environmental performance. Annual CO2 emissions during vehicle use are estimated to be reduced by approximately 20% globally across all units compared to the previous model.
To cater to diverse lifestyles, in addition to the standard specification, new grades have been introduced: the "EXECUTIVE," featuring exclusive designs such as four independent rear seats for elegant and secure travel on any road, and the "OFFROAD," equipped with specialized functions like front and rear differential locks to maximize off-road performance.
The significantly evolved new LX, with its first full model change in 14 years, embodies the concept of "Effortless sophistication on any road, anywhere in the world." We eagerly anticipate its introduction to Japan, scheduled for early 2022.
