Audi's SUV "Q5" Significantly Updated with Mild Hybrid and More

Audi AG has announced a significant update to its mid-size SUV, the Q5, featuring refreshed exterior and interior design along with the integration of a mild hybrid system.

More Aggressive Exterior with a Wider, Flatter Singleframe Grille

The new Q5's body is 19mm longer than its predecessor at 4.86m, due to the adoption of a larger bumper. The width (1.89m) and height (1.66m) remain unchanged.
The exterior is distinguished by a redesigned, wider, and flatter octagonal Singleframe grille. The LED headlights now incorporate new daytime running lights at the top.
The rear lights debut Audi's next-generation OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology. Customers can choose from three signature designs upon ordering, with the lighting design changing when the drive select mode is switched to dynamic.
Additionally, a proximity detection function is included: when another vehicle approaches within two meters while stationary, all OLED segments illuminate, returning to their original state when the car begins to move. The dynamic scrolling turn indicators are retained as before.
Inside, the top-tier model features a high-resolution 12.3-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit with three distinct graphic layouts. A 10.1-inch touchscreen display is standard on the center of the dashboard.
The Q5 40 TDI, the first variant introduced in Europe, combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine producing 204 PS (150 kW) and 400 Nm of torque with a mild hybrid system (MHEV). This powertrain achieves a fuel consumption of 5.4 L/100 km and CO2 emissions of 143–139 g/km in combined mode.
The MHEV system utilizes a 12V lithium-ion power system charged by a belt-driven starter generator (BSG). Under certain conditions, coasting with the engine off is possible, and the idling stop activates at speeds below 22 km/h.
This system is said to save approximately 0.3 liters of fuel per 100 km. The transmission is a 7-speed S tronic, paired with the quattro all-wheel-drive system featuring ultra technology. Performance figures include 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 222 km/h.
Driver assistance systems include Audi pre sense city, which helps prevent collisions with preceding vehicles and mitigates secondary impacts. The adaptive cruise system is enhanced with predictive efficiency assist, which supports a predictive driving style to reduce fuel consumption.
Audi plans to introduce further new engines for the Q5, including two four-cylinder TDIs, a V6 TDI, and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TFSI. The model is scheduled for global market introduction starting in autumn 2020, with a base price of €48,700 for the Audi Q5 40 TDI in Germany.
