New Subaru Legacy Outback Announced for Japan, Featuring Standard EyeSight X
Subaru has announced the Japanese specifications for the fully redesigned crossover SUV, the Legacy Outback.
A Safer Body and Advanced Safety Features Befitting a Flagship SUV
Since its debut in the North American market in 1995, the Legacy Outback has built a history as a crossover SUV that blends the strengths of passenger cars and SUVs.
The fully redesigned model is equipped with a 1.8-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder direct-injection turbo engine, driving all four wheels through a Lineartronic transmission with a manual mode. The company claims significant improvements in dynamic quality and crash safety performance through optimized body rigidity, including the Subaru Global Platform and full inner frame structure.
In terms of advanced safety features, all models come standard with the "new-generation EyeSight," which achieves 360-degree sensing and supports safe driving over a wider range, and the "EyeSight X," an advanced driver assistance system that utilizes 3D high-precision map data. This aims to achieve stress-free safe driving.
Additionally, it adopts the connected service "SUBARU STARLINK," which includes GPS and an in-vehicle communication module. Systems are in place for advanced automatic accident notification in the event of a collision, such as airbag deployment, and for connecting to a call center by simply pressing the in-car SOS button in situations like feeling unwell or experiencing aggressive driving.
The exterior expresses activity and toughness with a speed-sensing silhouette and body panels that emphasize thickness and strength. The interior creates a comfortable living space where all occupants can relax, while a large display and a full LCD meter provide a sense of advanced technology befitting a flagship SUV.
The body colors include nine options, featuring new shades like "Brilliant Bronze Metallic" and "Autumn Green Metallic," which express the unique world of the Legacy Outback.
Two grades are available: the "X-BREAK EX" priced at 4,147,000 yen and the "Limited EX" at 4,290,000 yen.
