Mercedes-Benz Japan has announced the addition of the high-performance "AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+" to its core GLE SUV series, opening reservations with deliveries scheduled to begin in June.

Since the "M-Class," its predecessor born in 1998, the "GLE" has defined the "premium SUV" category with its SUV-like exterior, refined interior, and exceptional driving performance. The current model, which debuted in June 2019, has been reborn with a completely redesigned interior and exterior, now available as a 7-seater model with three rows of seats.

The power unit in the AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ combines a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with an ISG (Integrated Starter Generator), a 48V electrical system, and an electric supercharger.

The M256 engine produces a maximum output of 435ps (320kW) and a peak torque of 520Nm. The electric motor, which functions as both an alternator and starter positioned between the engine and transmission, delivers a maximum output of 21ps (16kW) and a peak torque of 250Nm.

The transmission is an electronically controlled 9-speed transmission, "AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT (Torque-Clutch Transmission)," which achieves direct, rapid gear shifts and high transmission efficiency. Dynamic driving is enhanced by features such as automatic downshift blipping and Race Start. It also includes features like skipping gears during downshifts and an automatic double-clutch function.

The suspension is based on "AMG RIDE CONTROL+ Air Suspension" with "AMG Active Ride Control." Actuators, located on both the front and rear axles, control the road surface 1,000 times per second, delivering a comfortable ride while achieving high agility.

In terms of design, it features the latest dedicated equipment, including the AMG-specific radiator grille with vertical louvers, AMG sports seats, and AMG performance steering wheel. A 12.3-inch widescreen dual-display infotainment system is standard, along with the new voice control "MBUX" with natural language voice recognition.

The safety and driver assistance systems are the latest generation, equivalent to those in the S-Class, with enhanced functionality including "Active Brake Assist (with pedestrian and cross-traffic detection for right turns)." At speeds below 10 km/h, automatic braking activates if there is a risk of collision with oncoming vehicles while turning right.

Both left-hand and right-hand drive options are available, with a price of 13.32 million yen.
