On June 5, Porsche Japan announced that it will deploy its own charging network, including rapid charging, nationwide for owners of Porsche electric vehicles.
Two charger models will be available. The "Porsche Turbocharger," a rapid charger compliant with the CHAdeMO standard with a maximum output of 150kW, the fastest in Japan, was jointly developed with ABB, a leader in pioneering technology. It can charge a Taycan, Porsche's all-electric sports car, to 80% (equivalent to 300km of driving range) in 24 minutes. The "Porsche Mobile Charger," an 8kW rapid charger intended for home use, can charge to over 80% in approximately nine hours.
Furthermore, Porsche EVs are compatible with Japan's charging standards, CHAdeMO and J1772, allowing them to be used with over 20,000 chargers already installed in public facilities such as highway service areas, roadside stations, and parking lots.
The Porsche Turbochargers are scheduled to be installed at 21 domestic dealerships by the end of 2020, with plans for further expansion. Concurrently, facilities for EV maintenance and the deployment of trained mechanics will be established.
Additionally, as urban charging stations, Porsche Turbocharging Stations will be established in Tokyo (four locations in preparation), Nagoya (Hilton Nagoya underground parking, Nagoya Central Garden Parking Lot 1), and Osaka (LINKS UMEDA underground parking, Abeno Harukas underground parking). Each location will be equipped with two Porsche Turbochargers and several Porsche Mobile Charger Connect units (scheduled for the latter half of 2021), allowing for differentiation between short and long stays.
To support long-distance drives, Porsche Destination Charging Stations will be installed at destinations such as hotels and golf courses, offering chargers that Porsche owners can use free of charge. These will also be progressively expanded.
