Audi Japan has announced the SQ8 Sportback e-tron, a full-size BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) coupe SUV, and has commenced sales.

Audi's flagship EV coupe SUV, the Q8 e-tron, now features a sporty "S model" variant.

The drivetrain incorporates a total of three electric motors: one at the front and two at the rear. The front motor produces a maximum output of 157 kW, while the rear motors each deliver 138 kW. The system's total maximum output is 370 kW (510 PS) with a peak torque of 973 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via "quattro" all-wheel drive, achieving 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

Under normal driving conditions, only the rear motors are active. When rapid acceleration is required or on slippery surfaces, the front motor engages to provide additional torque. The rear motors can also be controlled independently, allowing for "electric torque vectoring" that enhances cornering performance by varying torque between the left and right wheels.

The SQ8 Sportback e-tron features an increased usable net energy capacity of 106 kWh from its 114 kWh gross capacity lithium-ion battery (a +19 kWh increase over the previous generation). Furthermore, the manufacturing process for the battery cells in the previous model has been revised using a stacking method, where electrode materials are layered and interwoven to minimize gaps. The chemical composition within the cells has also been adjusted.

Combined with aerodynamic improvements and enhanced motor efficiency, the driving range on a single charge has increased by 67 km to 482 km compared to the previous model. It also supports DC fast charging up to 150 kW via the CHAdeMO standard, enabling rapid charging.

The exterior features enlarged wheel arches compared to the standard model, along with S model-specific bumpers and 20-inch five-V-spoke alloy wheels, creating a more dynamic aesthetic.

Additionally, S model exclusive elements such as the silver front bumper lip, Singleframe grille, door inserts, diffuser, and mirror housings accentuate its sporty character.

The interior is predominantly black. Standard features befitting a flagship include S-logo Valcona sport seats with diamond stitching, a Virtual Cockpit Plus with S-specific views, a Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system, and power-closing doors.

Moreover, seatbelt buckle covers made from chemically recycled mixed plastic waste from automotive production are used, contributing to resource conservation.

The price for the SQ8 Sportback e-tron is ¥14,920,000.
