High-Performance M Models Based on the BMW X3 and X4 Debut
BMW has launched sales of high-performance M models based on its mid-size X3 and X4 SUVs.

Deliveries Scheduled for Spring Next Year and Beyond
The flagship "X3 M Competition" and "X4 M Competition" models are powered by a straight-six BMW M TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine, producing a maximum output of 510 ps (375kW) at 6,250 rpm and a peak torque of 620 Nm between 2,750 and 5,450 rpm. This setup enables a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 3.8 seconds.

The engineering incorporates numerous technologies honed on the circuit, including intake ducts optimized for response and efficiency, forged pistons designed for minimal weight and stable power delivery up to high revs, and twin-scroll turbochargers that provide rapid, dynamic response with high torque even at low RPMs, thanks to optimized boost pressure.
Extensive use of aluminum in the drivetrain components, including the body, contributes to weight reduction and enhanced dynamic performance. Furthermore, the standard Adaptive M suspension ensures both sporty driving dynamics and improved ride comfort in urban settings. To enable demanding track use, large-diameter brake discs and lightweight six-piston M compound brakes with superior heat and fade resistance are fitted as standard.
BMW X4 M Competition
The transmission is an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic with Drivelogic, designed to adapt to all driving situations, from spirited track sessions to comfortable city driving.
The performance-oriented "X3 M40i" and "X4 M40i" models feature a straight-six BMW M TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine producing 388 ps (285kW) at 5,800 rpm and 500 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 5,000 rpm. The "X3 M40d" is equipped with a straight-six BMW M TwinPower Turbo diesel engine, delivering 340 ps (250kW) at 4,400 rpm and 700 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm.

Additionally, BMW's intelligent all-wheel-drive system, BMW xDrive, combined with Adaptive M suspension and the M differential, ensures stable control and sporty driving even on rough terrain.
Various features such as the "Driving Assistant Professional" safety and driver assistance system, the traffic jam assistant with hands-off function, and the parking assistant are equipped as standard, mirroring those found in the base X3 and X4 models.
Pricing starts at 8.83 million yen for the "X3 M40i," 9.02 million yen for the "X3 M40d," 13.11 million yen for the "X3 M Competition," 9.20 million yen for the "X4 M40i," and 13.38 million yen for the "X4 M Competition." Deliveries are scheduled to begin in spring next year.
