The Top-End "Turbo S" Model of the Porsche 911 Makes its World Premiere
Porsche AG announced the new 911's top-end model, the "911 Turbo S," on March 3rd. The body lineup consists of two variants: a coupé and a convertible.
The Turbo S: 650 PS, 0-200 km/h in 8.9 Seconds
Based on the engine of the current Porsche 911 Carrera, the Turbo S's 3.8-liter, 6-cylinder boxer engine is equipped with two VTG turbochargers, producing a maximum output/torque of 650 PS (478 kW) / 800 Nm, surpassing the previous generation by 70 PS (51 kW) / 50 Nm. In the Turbo-specific 8-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) configuration, it achieves 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds (0.2 seconds faster than the previous generation) and a top speed of 330 km/h.
The new turbo engine features a completely redesigned charge-air cooling system, large VTG turbochargers with a symmetrical layout and electrically adjustable wastegate flaps (turbine diameter 55 mm, compressor diameter 61 mm), and piezo injectors that significantly improve the car's characteristics in terms of response, torque curve, emissions behavior, and revving performance. This combination is said to achieve a perfect balance of driving pleasure, dynamics, and sportiness for both daily use and the circuit.
This is particularly evident in the 0-200 km/h acceleration time, which is marked at 8.9 seconds, a full second faster than the previous generation. Thanks to the enhanced Porsche Traction Management (PTM) 4WD system, up to 500 Nm of torque is supplied to the front wheels, and the standard PASM chassis and dampers have also been reinforced.
The exterior boasts an enlarged body size to match the enhanced driving dynamics, with the upper part of the front axle now 45 mm wider at 1,840 mm and the upper part of the rear axle 20 mm wider at 1,900 mm. The track has also been widened by 42 mm at the front and 10 mm at the rear.
The front features wider air intakes, dual front light modules, and LED matrix headlights with dark inserts. A redesigned, pneumatically adjustable front spoiler and a large rear wing increase downforce by 15%. The rear is accentuated by angular, high-gloss black Turbo-style tailpipes. The power is transmitted to the road via different-sized tires: 20 inches at the front (255/35) and 21 inches at the rear (315/30).
The interior is full leather with light silver accents, featuring 18-way sports seats with stitching that pays homage to the "Type 930," the first Turbo model of the 911. It also includes a 10.9-inch PCM center display, a GT sports steering wheel, the Sport Chrono package integrated with the new Porsche Track Precision app, and a BOSE surround sound system, creating an environment that offers a sense of luxury while allowing for quick, distraction-free operation.
