MINI Countryman Orders Open for New Generation
BMW has begun accepting pre-orders for the premium compact SUV, the "MINI Countryman."
John Cooper Works Model Also Available
The model, previously known as the "MINI Crossover" in Japan, has evolved into its third generation as the "MINI Countryman," aligning with its global name.
The "MINI Countryman," the fourth model in the MINI series, was born in 2011 as MINI's first premium compact SUV. This full model change marks the beginning of the next generation for all MINI line-ups.
The exterior design evokes the styling of the "Concept Aceman," a BEV crossover concept model that hinted at MINI's future when revealed in 2022.
The body size has increased to a total length of 4,445mm, width of 1,845mm, and height of 1,660mm, presenting a more powerful styling. Notably, exterior and interior materials exclude chrome parts and leather, instead utilizing recycled polyester and aluminum, underscoring its forward-looking, next-generation design.
The interior features a minimalist design, stripped down to essentials. The instrument cluster behind the steering wheel has been eliminated, with all information displayed on the head-up display and the circular OLED central display.
Furthermore, the MINI Experience Modes, which dramatically alter the interior ambiance, are standard. Capable of projecting up to seven graphic light patterns onto the dashboard, these modes can sync with music or adapt to personal preferences, creating a diverse interior atmosphere.
The powertrain lineup includes front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive gasoline options, front-wheel-drive diesel, and the gasoline-powered "John Cooper Works (JCW) Countryman."
The entry-level "Countryman C" gasoline model is equipped with a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, producing a maximum output of 115kW and peak torque of 230Nm, driven by front-wheel drive.
The diesel model, "Countryman D" (FF), features a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine delivering 110kW and 360Nm. The "Countryman S ALL4," equipped with MINI's proprietary all-wheel-drive system "ALL4," uses a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine producing 150kW and 300Nm.
The "John Cooper Works Countryman," like the "Countryman S ALL4," is powered by a 2-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, but with an increased maximum output of 233kW and peak torque of 400Nm. Its ride height is also lowered by 15mm to 1,645mm compared to the standard model.
Additionally, it incorporates specially tuned sports suspension, the "ALL4" all-wheel-drive system, and Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) to enhance traction and handling during cornering. These features are designed to improve stability on the road and off-road capability, while also delivering sporty performance on the track.
In terms of safety features, it introduces the Hands-Free function for the first time in a MINI model, allowing for driving without holding the steering wheel during traffic jams on highways. It also comes standard with Active Cruise Control, unintended acceleration prevention, Parking Assistant Plus with a clear view of the vehicle's surroundings, and a drive recorder.
Furthermore, all new MINI vehicles can now be ordered not only at dealerships but also online.
The "Countryman" is priced at 4.89 million yen for the "Countryman C," 5.09 million yen for the "Countryman D," 5.66 million yen for the "Countryman S ALL4," and 6.67 million yen for the "John Cooper Works Countryman."
