Support for Medical Facilities Begins at Overseas Production Sites
Production will utilize 3D printers owned by each business site, initially commencing in April at the Technical Center, Advanced Research Center, and Yokohama Plant at a pace of approximately 2,500 units per month, with plans to supply them to medical facilities.
Furthermore, based on a request from the Japanese government, Nissan has begun considering support for manufacturers of ventilators and artificial cardiopulmonary devices, and as the Nissan Group, will propose process improvements for the manufacturing of these medical devices, provide production sites and personnel, and supply necessary parts.
In addition, support for medical facilities has commenced at overseas production sites. In the United States, medical face shields are being produced using 3D printers and donated to medical facilities in Michigan, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
In the UK, employees at the Sunderland plant are volunteering to support the provision of medical face shields. By this week, 77,000 units will be shipped, with plans to ship up to 100,000 units weekly thereafter, and assistance is being provided for the purchase of injection molding machines to significantly increase production capacity.
In Spain, in collaboration with San Pau Hospital, QEV Technologies, and Eurecat, ventilator production will begin at the Barcelona powertrain plant.
The Nissan Group will continue to leverage the expertise and facilities cultivated through its automotive development and production, collaborating with governments and stakeholders in various countries to support efforts to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
