The Latest Land Cruiser "70" with Improved On-Road Ride Comfort
Toyota Motor Corporation has reintroduced the SUV "Land Cruiser "70"" to Japan, commencing sales.
Adoption of Latest Drivetrain and Braking Control Systems
The Land Cruiser "70," first released in 1984 and popular domestically and internationally as a heavy-duty model, has been reintroduced to Japan.
While sales in Japan concluded in 2004, the model remains highly popular, with limited-edition sales in 2014. Its signature characteristics—authentic off-road design, robust ladder frame, and simple parts structure—have supported people's lives worldwide.
For this reintroduction to Japan, the powertrain, handling stability, design, and safety performance have been updated. The heart of the vehicle is a 2.8-liter direct-injection turbo diesel engine, the "1GD-FTV," producing a maximum output of 150kW (204ps) and a peak torque of 500Nm, driving all four wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The traditional ladder frame remains, complemented by drivetrain and braking control systems such as electric differential locks, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Active Traction Control (A-TRC), Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), and Downhill Assist Control (DAC), ensuring high handling stability and off-road capability.
Furthermore, the suspension has been refined to pursue a comfortable ride, enhancing its on-road performance.
The exterior retains its characteristic horizontal and vertical lines, preserving the iconic silhouette of the Land Cruiser "70." Meanwhile, details have been updated to reflect contemporary sensibilities.
The interior also inherits the robust, horizontal design and functional layout suited for off-road driving, while featuring high-quality materials.
Safety features have also been enhanced to meet modern standards, including a back monitor and the newly adopted Pre-Collision Safety system, part of "Toyota Safety Sense."
It is available only as a 3-number plate vehicle, with a price of 4.8 million yen.
