The exterior of the new 5 Series features a more integrated and sculpted kidney grille, enhancing its prestige and elegance. The L-shaped LED headlights express BMW's traditional four-eyed design while emphasizing a modern, sporty image.
The rear design features BMW's signature L-shaped taillights with a more three-dimensional form, surrounded by black accents for a sharp impression. The sculpted bumper and wide, trapezoidal exhaust pipes create a sophisticated and luxurious rear view.
The side profile, with its characteristic short overhangs, long hood, elegant roofline, and extended wheelbase, enhances interior space while maintaining a beautiful coupe-like proportion.
Inside, the switch panel is finished in high-gloss black for an enhanced premium feel, and leather seats are standard (excluding the 523i) for added luxury. The Touring model features a new luggage compartment package, allowing for an additional 10 liters of space beyond the standard 570 liters without folding the rear seats. With the rear seats fully folded, the luggage capacity expands to 1700 liters.
The powertrain lineup includes three gasoline models: the BMW 523i with a standard-output inline four-cylinder engine, the BMW 530i with a high-output inline four-cylinder engine, and the BMW 540i xDrive with BMW's traditional inline six-cylinder engine. The clean diesel offerings include the environmentally friendly BMW 523d xDrive with an inline four-cylinder engine, as well as the BMW 523d xDrive Edition Joy+, offering an attractive price point.
Additionally, the BMW 530e is available with a plug-in hybrid system, enabling electric-only driving. A full charge using a 200V standard charger takes approximately 4-5 hours, providing an electric-only range of 54 km (WLTC mode). Combined with the inline four-cylinder gasoline engine, the hybrid fuel efficiency is 12.8 km/l (WLTC mode). The newly adopted XtraBoost increases the total maximum output by 30 kW to 215 kW compared to the previous model, utilizing the electric motor not only for environmental performance but also for sporty driving. The BMW 530e Edition Joy+, offering an attractive price, is also part of the lineup.
The driving assistance systems include a state-of-the-art suite powered by a high-performance three-lens camera, radar, and processor. Standard features include Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Lane Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Steering & Lane Control Assistant, Side Collision Protection, Collision Mitigation Braking with Active Steering, Cross-Traffic Warning, and Pedal Misapplication Prevention. The standard Parking Assistant incorporates a Reversing Assistant function that can recall the vehicle's last 50 meters of forward path and precisely retrace it in reverse. Additionally, the system features the "Hands-Off Driving Assistant for Traffic Jams," newly approved for domestic models by BMW.
The vehicle also comes standard with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which can be activated not only by saying "Hey, BMW" but also by custom wake words like "5 Series." Additionally, BMW Digital Key allows users to unlock/lock the doors and start the engine simply by holding their iPhone near the door handle, without needing the physical car key.
Prices range from 6.78 million to 11.04 million yen for the Sedan, and 7.49 million to 11.42 million yen for the Touring. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in October.
