Bentayga's Top-Tier Long-Wheelbase Model Arrives
Bentley has announced the introduction of the "Extended Wheelbase (EWB)," its most luxurious grade featuring a long wheelbase, to the luxury SUV Bentayga.
180mm Longer Wheelbase for a More Luxurious, Comfortable Space
The Bentayga, born in 2015 and now in its second generation, will welcome a new top-tier grade, the "Extended Wheelbase (EWB)," with "wellness" as its keyword.
Its most significant feature is the 180mm extension of the wheelbase. The original wheelbase of 2,995mm is extended to 3,175mm, bringing the total body length to 5,322mm. The extended wheelbase allows for longer rear doors and an expanded cabin space, enhancing the luxurious ambiance.
In addition to 4- and 5-seat configurations, a 4+1 seating arrangement is available, leveraging the long wheelbase. Befitting its "wellness" theme, the rear seats can recline up to 40 degrees into a "Relax" mode. Simultaneously, the front passenger seat moves forward electronically, revealing a leather footrest from the rear of the seat, allowing occupants to recline fully.
Conversely, the "Business" mode positions the rear seats upright, creating a comfortable environment for working while on the move. These adjustments can be controlled via Bentley's proprietary portable device and touchscreen, as well as through control switches located in the door pockets.
Temperature management is also automated through "Seat Auto Climate," with six levels of adjustment. Sensors measure the temperature and surface humidity of the areas in contact with the occupant on both the seat cushion and backrest. The heater and ventilation system then adjust to achieve the set temperature, ensuring personalized comfort that can reduce fatigue and irritation, leading to safer driving, according to Bentley.
Additionally, the massage function helps prevent blood flow stagnation and fatigue buildup, while the rear door armrests and center armrest now feature heating.
Furthermore, the extended cabin necessitated a redesign of the front center console from an ergonomic perspective to improve convenience for rear passengers. It has been extended to the rear, providing easier access to the touchscreen remote, and includes a wireless charging cradle for smartphones and newly designed air vents.
The powertrain features a 4.2-liter V8 twin-turbo engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the standard "Bentley Dynamic Ride" system. It produces a maximum output of 550 ps and peak torque of 770 Nm, with a top speed of 290 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.
Furthermore, recognizing that perceived vibrations significantly impact wellness, the "Electronic All-Wheel Steering," first introduced on Bentley's luxury grand tourer Flying Spur, has been adopted. This system reduces shaking and, at low speeds, effectively shortens the wheelbase for a smaller turning radius and improved maneuverability. At high speeds, it contributes to enhanced stability.
The Bentayga EWB is scheduled for release in the latter half of 2022 in its home market and other regions, with the introduction timing and pricing for Japan yet to be determined.
