The new SL makes its Japan premiere, arriving as the latest roadster featuring an F1-derived inline-four turbo engine|Mercedes AMG
Revived 2+2 seating and a sound-insulated soft top
Turning to the exterior, the design embodies Mercedes-Benz's "Sensual Purity" design philosophy, infused with AMG's sporty elements. It maintains the SL's characteristic low-slung proportions with a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and a steeply raked windscreen with a black-painted frame.
At the front, the AMG-specific grille emphasizes the SL's power, complemented by sculpted sides. The rear features a space-saving, lightweight Z-fold soft top. This soft top incorporates sound-deadening material, contributing to everyday practicality and quietness while also reducing vehicle weight. It opens and closes in approximately 15 seconds and can be operated while driving at speeds up to 60 km/h.
Mercedes AMG describes the interior as a revival of the tradition that began with the first 300 SL Roadster. Inspired by the minimalist 300 SL Roadster, it adopts a "hyper-analogue" design that fuses analog geometric forms with digital technology.
The revived 2+2 rear seats can accommodate passengers up to 150cm tall, or 135cm when a child safety seat is installed. When not in use, the rear seats can also serve as additional storage space for items like golf bags.
The "Mercedes AMG SL 43" also comes standard with the interactive infotainment system "MUBX," telematics services, and the "Intelligent Drive" advanced driver-assistance systems, similar to other Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
The price is 16.48 million yen.
