The Lexus RX Gets a Minor Change
On August 29, Lexus announced a minor change to its mid-size luxury SUV, the RX, and began sales the same day.
Packed with Premium Features, Including the World's First Blade Scan Adaptive Driving Beam
Lexus's mid-size SUV, the RX, has received a minor change. The exterior features smaller headlamps. The spindle grille uses an L-shaped block mesh pattern to create a sense of volume, with a three-dimensional design that projects towards the center. The sides have a continuous character line from the front bumper to the door side, while the rear uses a horizontal design for the muffler and underguard at the bottom of the bumper to create a sense of width.
The interior has been updated with a touch display for the navigation system, additional USB charging sockets, and more storage space for smartphones. The long-wheelbase model, the 450hL, now offers two front-to-back seat positions for the third row. Additionally, second-row captain's seats are available as an option.
In terms of driving dynamics, the body's spot welding points have been increased for higher rigidity. Combined with enhanced suspension rigidity, the adoption of Active Cornering Assist to suppress understeer, shock absorbers with added Friction Control Dampers, and the NAVI AI-AVS which electronically optimizes damping force, the vehicle achieves excellent ride comfort along with high handling stability and a linear steering feel.
Furthermore, the sporty "F SPORT" model features an F mesh pattern spindle grille and side grilles. The spindle grille and front and rear bumpers are accented with a lustrous black chrome finish, paired with specially designed dark black painted aluminum wheels to emphasize its sportiness. For performance, dedicated tuning has been applied, including performance dampers at the front and rear to absorb micro-vibrations and active stabilizers for instantaneous roll control, further pursuing sportier driving performance.
In terms of advanced safety, the world's first Blade Scan Adaptive Driving Beam (AHS) has been introduced. This system works by shining light from the LED source onto a rapidly rotating blade mirror. The reflected light then illuminates the road ahead through a lens, moving at high speed. This allows for finer light cutoff than conventional AHS and expands the high beam's illumination range, enabling quicker recognition of pedestrians and signs without dazzling oncoming or preceding vehicles.
Additionally, the functions of the "Lexus Safety System +" pre-collision safety package have been further enhanced. The vehicle's behavior during driver assistance is now more natural and reassuring for the driver.
Prices, including 8% consumption tax, range from 5,033,727 yen to 6,303,273 yen for the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo "RX300," from 6,156,000 yen to 7,589,455 yen for the 3.5-liter V6 hybrid "RX450h," and 7,815,273 yen for the long-wheelbase "RX450hL."
