Powertrain features clean diesel plus mild hybrid

The GLC Coupe has received its first full model change, with the "GLC 220d 4MATIC Coupe" now available in Japan.
The exterior boasts a sporty dynamism within its flowing silhouette. At the front, the star-pattern grille, combined with an aggressive front bumper featuring a bold opening, creates a sharp and refined front mask.
The sides feature significantly reduced lines and edges. Sculpted surfaces with curved lines create a play of light and shadow. The rear design, with its powerfully flared fenders, horizontal bumper, and two-piece slim taillights with a three-dimensional internal structure, imparts a wide and sharp impression.
While the design has been refined, the drag coefficient has improved from 0.30 in the previous model to 0.27, also contributing to better fuel efficiency.
Turning to the interior, elements like the rounded air vents, reminiscent of aircraft nacelles, serve as accents. The standard real wood interior trim creates a luxurious space. The "ambient lighting" that illuminates the cabin has also been improved, now offering a choice of 64 colors.
Furthermore, the luggage compartment offers a generous capacity of 545 to 1,490 liters, enhancing practicality.
The powertrain features a newly designed crankshaft and an enlarged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder diesel turbo engine, the "OM654M," with increased stroke and displacement. It produces a maximum output of 197 hp (145 kW) and a peak torque of 440 Nm, driving all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission.
A mild hybrid system, ISG, is positioned between the engine and transmission, providing a short-term boost of up to 23 hp (17 kW) and 205 Nm, contributing to improved fuel economy.
The new GLC Coupe adds an "Offroad" mode to the "DYNAMIC SELECT" system, which allows drivers to switch engine and transmission characteristics with a single button press.
The transmission switches to offroad mode, and the "Transparent Bonnet" function, utilizing the 360° camera system, can be activated. This virtually displays the road ahead of the vehicle on the media display, allowing drivers to quickly identify obstacles such as large rocks or deep ruts on the path.
The suspension follows the C-Class, with a four-link front and multi-link rear setup. Additionally, AIRMATIC suspension is available as an option.
In terms of safety equipment, the latest Mercedes-Benz driver assistance systems, also found in the S-Class, are employed. These systems aim to reduce the burden on the driver, not only on regular roads but also through enhanced driving support on highways.
The MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) system now includes the latest features, such as "MBUX AR Navigation," where the actual scenery ahead of the vehicle is displayed as part of the navigation screen, in addition to the infotainment functions.
The price for the "GLC 220d 4MATIC Coupe" is 8.98 million yen.
