Jeep Compass Undergoes a Minor Change, Updating Interior and Exterior Design and Enhancing Safety Features
FCA Japan is giving the Jeep Compass compact SUV a minor change. Sales will begin on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
Refreshed Interior with a Seamless Horizontal Design
The Compass, born in 2012 as a pioneer in the compact SUV segment and evolving into its current second generation in 2017, is set to release a model with enhanced safety features and updated interior and exterior designs.
The exterior has been redesigned, focusing on the front and rear. A linear opening spanning the width of the vehicle has been added below the iconic Jeep seven-slot grille. The headlights are now full LED, boasting approximately twice the brightness of the previous xenon units, and are standard equipment. The rear also features LED lights, with revised designs for the rear combination lamps and bumper garnish.
The most notable aspect of this minor change is the interior design. A seamless horizontal design has been adopted, with the instrument panel, center display, center console, and door panels all newly designed.
The center display on the dashboard features a large touchscreen. With the latest processor, processing speed has been significantly improved, allowing for a more comfortable experience with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety features have also been updated to the latest systems. New additions include Forward Collision Warning, Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Lane Departure Warning. Additionally, for the first time in a Jeep, the Active Lane Management system, which automatically corrects steering to help avoid collisions with vehicles in blind spots, is standard on all grades.
The entry-level 'Sport' grade comes standard with auto headlights, blind spot monitoring, and a rear backup camera. The 'Longitude' and the higher-grade 'Limited' models are equipped with Traffic Sign Recognition, which reads road signs via a front camera and notifies the driver, Intelligent Speed Assist, which automatically recognizes speed limits and adjusts driving speed, and Auto Brake Hold, which maintains a stopped position even when the brake pedal is released, such as at traffic lights.
The 'Limited' model further includes the Surround View Camera and Driver Attention Alert, both new to the Jeep brand, as well as a heated steering wheel.
Pricing for the four-wheel-drive 'Limited' top-grade model is ¥4.35 million, a modest ¥10,000 increase from the previous model. The front-wheel-drive 'Longitude' is ¥3.85 million, a ¥20,000 increase, and the entry-level front-wheel-drive 'Sport' is ¥3.46 million.
