Audi World Premieres the New A3 Sportback
Audi has unveiled the fourth generation of its compact hatchback, the A3 Sportback. The company highlights its sporty design, advanced digitalization, and comprehensive connected features.
Distinctive Matrix LED Lights Add a Highlight
The fourth generation of the A3, first introduced in 1996, has arrived.
The new A3 Sportback's dimensions have increased by 30mm in both length and width compared to the previous model, now measuring 4,340mm long, 1,820mm wide, and 1,430mm high. The height and wheelbase of 2,640mm remain unchanged.
The luggage compartment offers a capacity of 380 to 1,200 liters with the rear seats folded, and the loading floor can be set at different heights.
The exterior is characterized by a wide Singleframe grille and large air intakes at the front. The body panels below the shoulder line adopt Audi's new design elements, with a concave shape that further emphasizes the wheel arches, creating a striking visual effect.
The Matrix LED headlights are composed of a 3x5 array of LED segments. This creates a distinctive light signature, serving as a key accent for the A3's character.
The sporty new design is also reflected in the interior. The shift lever, door openers, and the black-panel-style instrument panel have all been redesigned.
The infotainment system features a standard 10.1-inch touchscreen, previously found in higher-end models. It supports input via handwriting and provides audio feedback, with voice control capable of understanding everyday conversation.
Furthermore, individual settings can be saved for up to six user profiles. These include climate control, seat positions, frequently used navigation destinations, and media preferences.
Driver assistance systems include Audi pre sense front and active lane assist, which help prevent accidents with other vehicles and provide a high level of safety. Adaptive cruise assist is also available, maintaining vehicle speed and distance to the car ahead while gently intervening with electric steering to keep the car within its lane.
Looking at the powertrain, three engine options will be available at launch in Europe. More engines with different displacements, mild-hybrid systems, and the "quattro" all-wheel-drive will be added gradually.
The engines available at European launch are the 1.5 TFSI with an output of 110 kW (150 hp), and two versions of the 2.0 TDI engine with outputs of 85 kW (116 hp) and 110 kW (150 hp).
All models will initially be equipped with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic transmission, driving the front wheels.
Orders will open in Europe in March 2020, with deliveries scheduled to begin in early May. The price for the 1.5 TFSI with 110 kW (150 hp) will be 28,900 Euros.
