The "GT," a sports car entirely developed in-house by Mercedes-AMG, sees its entry-level "GT" and "GT Roadster" models receive an engine power upgrade as the primary highlight of these revisions.
All Mercedes-AMG grades are equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo direct-injection engine. For this update, the "M178" engine in the "GT" and "GT Roadster" has been tuned for enhanced performance. Peak output is increased by 40 kW (54 hp) to 390 kW (530 hp), and maximum torque is boosted by 40 Nm to 670 Nm. The top speed is 312 km/h, with 0-100 km/h acceleration achieved in 3.8 seconds.
Furthermore, the "GT" and "GT Roadster" models now come standard with double-wishbone "AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension" featuring electronically controlled damping. Drivers can select from three modes – "C" (Comfort), "S" (Sport), and "S+" (Sport Plus) – to adjust damping characteristics according to driving conditions.
Additionally, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential has been adopted. This enhances cornering speeds and provides variable locking action during acceleration and when the throttle is released, adapting to various driving situations and road friction coefficients.
In conjunction with this power increase, a reinforced composite brake system has been installed, featuring 390mm diameter ventilated drilled discs on the front brakes, offering immense stopping power and excellent fade resistance.
The "GT," "GT Roadster," and "GT R" models also include the Radar Safety Package as standard. This encompasses features such as "Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC," which automatically maintains an optimal distance to the vehicle ahead and brakes to a stop if it does, as well as "Blind Spot Assist."
New body colors, Obsidian Black and Hi-tech Silver, have been added. Pricing starts at 17.77 million yen for the "GT," 22.43 million yen for the "GT C," and 24.53 million yen for the "GT R." The open-top Roadster models are priced at 19.27 million yen for the "GT" and 23.52 million yen for the "GT C."
The "Night Edition," introduced to commemorate these revisions, is based on the "GT" and "GT Roadster" models, featuring a predominantly black color scheme for both the interior and exterior. Special matte black painted AMG Y-spoke alloy wheels and, for the coupé, a specially designed carbon fiber roof contribute to its unique and exclusive character.
Production numbers and body colors for the limited run include Obsidian Black and Graphite Grey Magno for the coupé, totaling 45 units, and Graphite Grey Magno for the roadster, with 5 units, for a combined total of 50 units. Both left-hand and right-hand drive configurations are available for all models. The coupé is priced at 19.90 million yen, and the roadster at 21.53 million yen. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in early 2021.
