Audi has introduced seat fabric made from recycled materials derived from plastic bottles for the first time in its new "A3."

In recent years, plastic bottles have been transformed into jewelry, clothing, and bags through recycling. Now, they have been newly utilized as seat material for Audi's new A3.

In Germany, an environmentally conscious country, there is a system where you can receive a deposit of 0.25 euros when you put used plastic bottles into a collection machine.

The bottles are then compressed for transport and, upon arrival at the recycling plant, sorted by color, size, and quality. Next, they are crushed into flakes, washed, dried, melted, and then extruded into rod-shaped plastic.

Once dried, the machinery cuts them into small fragments, and by extruding these, yarn is produced.

The seats in the A3 use up to 45 1.5-liter plastic bottles per seat. Furthermore, the A3 also uses 62 recycled plastic bottles for its carpets, along with recycled materials for insulation, absorption materials, luggage compartment side panels, the load floor, and mats.

Additionally, the A3 offers three types of seat fabric, with up to 89% manufactured from recycled raw materials.

Audi has set a goal to significantly increase the proportion of recycled materials in its vehicles over the next few years, and in the near future, it will be possible to create seat fabrics from recycled materials and then recycle them again.

Furthermore, the company aims to produce seat fabrics for all model series from recycled raw materials in the long term.
