BMW Introduces "Traffic Jam Assistant with Hands-Off Functionality" for the First Time in a Certified Japanese Model

The exterior of the new BMW X3 and X4 is characterized by a powerful impression from the signature BMW kidney grille, now in a unified, connected design, along with aerodynamic front bumpers and the latest headlight design. The rear gains presence with a newly designed bumper.
The BMW X3 is available with the "xDrive20i," powered by a highly efficient 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine; the "xDrive20d," equipped with a powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder clean diesel engine; and the "xDrive30e," a plug-in hybrid model featuring a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder gasoline engine, an electric motor, and a 34 Ah lithium-ion battery, offering an electric-only range of 49.5 km (WLTC mode) per charge.
The BMW X4 lineup includes the "xDrive30i," powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an output of up to 252 ps, and the "xDrive20d," equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder clean diesel engine.
In terms of driver assistance, the "Driving Assistant Professional," a state-of-the-art system with enhanced precision and accuracy thanks to a high-performance three-camera and radar setup and a powerful processor, is standard. It also features the "Traffic Jam Assistant with Hands-Off Functionality," which BMW has introduced for the first time in a certified Japanese model. This allows the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel while driving, provided they remain constantly attentive to the road ahead and are able to reliably operate the steering wheel at any time in response to the surrounding traffic and vehicle conditions.
Furthermore, the standard Parking Assistant includes a Reversing Assist function that remembers the route the vehicle previously traveled forward for up to 50 meters and can accurately retrace the same route in reverse. This is useful for safely and precisely returning to the original route when encountering oncoming traffic on narrow roads, which are common in Japan.
Additionally, leveraging AI technology, the "Intelligent Personal Assistant" enables vehicle operation and access to information through voice commands alone. Drivers can assign a custom name to the system, and by linking with Amazon Alexa via the "My BMW" smartphone app, they can utilize various Alexa services and functions as if they were at home.
Prices range from 6.99 million to 8.57 million yen for the X3, and 7.76 million to 8.37 million yen for the X4. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in November for the X3 and next spring for the X4.
