Range Rover Announces Top-Tier Model
Unveiled at the New York Auto Show, the "Range Rover SVAutobiography" is the new flagship, boasting a 550ps V8 supercharged engine and a bespoke, luxurious interior and exterior. Replacing the previous top-tier "Autobiography Black" model, Land Rover aims to make a statement in the luxury SUV market, which is seeing growing excitement, particularly in North America, with this latest offering from the esteemed brand.
The Range Rover SVAutobiography features an all-aluminum V8 supercharged engine that delivers 550ps and 680Nm, an increase of 40ps and 55Nm over its predecessor. This makes it the most powerful engine ever fitted to a production Range Rover.
In addition to the V8, engine options include a 3.0-liter TDV6, an SDV6 hybrid, a 4.4-liter SDV8 diesel, and gasoline engines such as the 3.0-liter V6 supercharged and 5.0-liter V8 supercharged. A ZF 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters comes standard. The wheelbase is available in both long and standard configurations.
The exterior offers a first-ever two-tone paint option, with the upper body in "Santorini Black" and the lower half available in a choice of nine colors. The grille features a dedicated SVAutobiography mesh design with a polished chrome finish. The bonnet bears the SVAutobiography logo, and the tailgate has a dedicated badge. Models equipped with the most powerful 550ps V8 supercharged engine are fitted with gloss black Brembo front brake calipers and a quad exhaust system, highlighting their potent performance.
Inside, wood paneling and leather seats are complemented by polished aluminum for switches and cup holders. The rear seats include a refrigerator compartment and an electric folding table. The floor is covered with long-pile, twill carpet laid over aluminum seat rails, completing the luxurious ambiance.
Production of this model is handled by Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division in the UK. One of the features designed by SVO is the optional "Event Seats" for the tailgate area.
These seats, crafted with durable aluminum frames and Windsor leather, are stored in the luggage compartment and can be deployed quickly and easily. They offer a comfortable space for two adults to relax when enjoying leisure activities. This embodies Range Rover's philosophy of catering to both work and play.
The Range Rover SVAutobiography is scheduled to go on sale in the summer of 2015.
