A Collaboration Between Two British Icons
Based on the iconic Land Rover Defender SUV, this one-off model, full of playful spirit, was created in collaboration with British designer Sir Paul Smith.
Sir Paul, who has driven Land Rovers for many years, describes the Defender as: "A British icon that I am particularly proud of. I still have a Defender at my home in the Italian countryside, and it’s the perfect car for tackling rocky, uneven terrain."
For the creation of this special model, Sir Paul worked closely with the design team at Land Rover's personalization customization division, 'Special Vehicle Operations' (SVO). With advice fromGerry McGovernhe meticulously crafted the Defender, one of Britain's most representative vehicles, to his exact specifications.
The colourful exterior panels feature 27 different colours, personally selected by Sir Paul Smith, inspired by the British countryside and the colour schemes of the Defender's past as a military vehicle. Sir Paul's vision is also reflected in the interior, with a luxurious space created using a combination of black leather with blue stitching and fabric. This fabric was designed by Sir Paul for the American interior manufacturer Maharam.
In addition to these colour schemes, playful details are hidden throughout, such as an illustration of a keyring inside the glove box and hand-drawn bees on the roof, evoking the British countryside.
While adopting such unique colours and materials, the wing mirrors, door handles, and wheels, which form the Defender's characteristic silhouette, retain a satin finish, preserving its contemporary feel.
This collaboration between two renowned British brands is, unfortunately, a bespoke model and will not be available for general sale. However, it serves as a prime example of the remarkable one-off vehicles that can be created through commissions to the company's SVO division.
