1.8-Liter Atkinson Engine + Electric Motor

This new model, the CT200h, is the production version of the "LF-Ch" concept car announced at last September's Frankfurt Motor Show, a five-door hatchback. Its powertrain features a 1.8-liter Atkinson engine combined with an electric motor, and it is characterized by a hybrid system optimized for the CT200.

The manufacturer claims this model was developed to usher in a new era for Lexus, offering the "fun to drive and experience" time and space by combining dynamic, sporty driving and styling with advanced environmental performance.

Driving Mode and Meter Illumination are Linked

In terms of driving, similar to other hybrid models like the Prius, it offers a normal driving mode that balances power and fuel efficiency. Additionally, it features driving modes that alter the driving experience by changing the hybrid system and vehicle control systems such as VSC and ESP. For instance, in "SPORTS" mode, it achieves direct handling and agile acceleration, while in "ECO" mode, the setting prioritizes fuel economy. Furthermore, in "SPORTS" mode, the meter illumination changes to red, and in "ECO" mode, it turns blue, creating a visual appeal for the driver.

The exterior is based on Lexus's design philosophy, "L-finesse." The stance is impressive, emphasizing the presence of the tires and appearing low to the ground, as if gripping the road.

The CT200h, which Lexus touts as "the first full hybrid vehicle in the premium compact segment," enters a market crowded with strong competitors like the Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3, and BMW 1 Series. It will be interesting to see how it is received with its hybrid technology as its weapon.

BRAND HISTORY
Toyota launched its luxury car brand LEXUS in the American market in 1989. The aim was to offer new value, distinct from American and German luxury cars, through Toyota's advanced technological capabilities, superior quality, and exceptional customer service.

When the "LS400" (domestic name: Celsior) and "ES250" (domestic name: Camry) were introduced to the American market in September of that year, the LS400 quickly won "Best Import Car" by February of the following year, 1990. Since then, Lexus's reputation has only grown, and with the expansion of its lineup, it has solidified its position as a luxury car brand.

Following its success in America, Lexus expanded into Europe in 2004 and announced its business development in Japan in May of the same year. In August 2005, it launched its luxury car business in its home country. Initially, the lineup lacked a flagship "LS," consisting of the "GS" (successor to Toyota's Aristo), "SC" (Toyota's Soarer), and "IS" (successor to Toyota's Altezza). However, with the introduction of the long-awaited new LS in September 2006, and its hybrid version, the "LS600h/LS600hL," in May 2007, Lexus met the expectations of luxury sedan buyers.

Meanwhile, Lexus has focused on building a sporty image, announcing the sports model "IS F" in October 2007 and entering the prototype sports coupe "LF-A" in the Nürburgring 24 Hours race in May 2008. Further growth in popularity is anticipated.
