Ferrari Portofino M Debuts with Redesigned Powertrain

On September 16, Ferrari unveiled the "Ferrari Portofino M" online for the first time, featuring a newly developed V8 turbo engine, a five-position Manettino including Race mode, and a new eight-speed gearbox, based on the spider model "Portofino." The "M" stands for "Modificata" (modified), a designation Ferrari has historically used for models that have evolved to enhance performance.

Powertrain Overhauled with More Powerful V8 and Newly Designed 8-Speed Gearbox

The Portofino M measures 4,594mm in length, 1,938mm in width, and 1,318mm in height, with a dry weight of 1,545kg. Its powertrain is the 3,855cc V8 turbo engine from the family that has won International Engine of the Year for four consecutive years. It delivers a maximum output of 620 hp at 5,750-7,500 rpm, 20 hp more than the Portofino, and a maximum torque of 760 Nm at 3,000-5,750 rpm.
Furthermore, a completely new eight-speed gearbox replaces the previous seven-speed unit. This marks the first time an eight-speed gearbox has been fitted to an open-top Ferrari. The clutch module, with its oil-bath dual-clutch structure, has been made 20% more compact, while torque delivery has been improved by 35%. Performance figures are a top speed of 320 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 3.45 seconds, and 0-200 km/h in 9.8 seconds.
The most significant innovation in terms of vehicle dynamics is the introduction of the five-position Manettino, a first for a Ferrari GT spider. The aim is to enhance high-performance handling and traction with the addition of Race mode, maximizing driving pleasure and the joy of being behind the wheel, supported by the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer.
The exterior features a redesigned front end, with the bumper, in particular, shaped to be sportier and more aggressive. The interior, like the exterior, has been finished with even more flowing lines.
New optional features include ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) and seats with ventilation and heating functions. The retractable hard-top (RHT) contributes to its versatility, allowing it to be a true coupé with the roof closed and a pure spider with it open – a versatility that is undoubtedly the model's greatest appeal.
