Held in 2013Tokyo Motor Show, andLA Auto ShowThe Porsche "Macan," which had its simultaneous world premiere at theMacan", the new model, which garnered attention as the company's second SUV following the "Cayenne", has today launched in Japan.
The Macan's body dimensions are 4,680mm (4,700mm for the Turbo model) in length, 1,925mm in width, and 1,625mm in height. It is one size smaller than the Cayenne and is positioned as Porsche's first compact SUV. Three models have been prepared for the Japanese market, all featuring 4WD and a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission.
The lineup includes the entry-level "Macan" with a 2-liter inline four-cylinder turbo engine producing a maximum output of 174kW (237ps), the "Macan S" with a 3-liter V6 twin-turbo engine delivering 250kW (340ps), and the top-of-the-line "Macan Turbo" equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 twin-turbo engine generating 294kW (400ps).
The "Macan S Diesel," powered by a 3-liter V6 turbo diesel engine offered in Germany, has unfortunately been omitted from this launch. However, given the strong demand from users, we anticipate future developments.
Toshiyuki Shimegi, President of Porsche Japan, stated, "The compact SUV segment is a crucial market expected to grow by 3.5 percent annually over the next decade. As of the end of October, sales for fiscal year 2014 stood at 3,797 units, a 101.5 percent increase year-on-year, showing steady progress. With the addition of the Macan next fiscal year, we are aiming for our first milestone of 5,000 units for Porsche Japan." He expressed his enthusiasm for the future.
Prices are 6.16 million yen for the Macan, 7.19 million yen for the Macan S, and 9.97 million yen for the Macan Turbo. As it is the most affordable model in the current lineup of 40 variants, the number of pre-orders has reached 1,500 units. Deliveries are scheduled to begin this weekend, with debut events to be held at all authorized Porsche dealerships nationwide on November 15th and 16th.
