Volkswagen Group Japan has introduced the "Golf Edition 40," a special limited edition model to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Golf's launch. The car is available in a limited run of 1,000 units.

The "Golf" is now a flagship model for Volkswagen. The very first unit rolled off the production line on March 29, 1964, at the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg, Germany. Over the past 40 years, it has seen seven generations and a total production exceeding 32 million units.

The latest 7th generation offers an expanded range of model variations, including the basic "TSI" and "TDI" models, the sporty "GTI", its diesel counterpart "GTD", the most powerful sports model, "R", and the plug-in hybrid model "GTE", which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show, as well as the electric vehicle "eGolf" announced in Japan.

Importation to Japan began in 1975, with over 600,000 units having arrived since. Last year, it received the Japan Car of the Year award, the first for an imported vehicle, demonstrating its enduring presence in Japan even after 40 years.

The "Golf Edition 40," launched as a 40th-anniversary model, is based on the well-equipped "TSI Highline" and has been enhanced with special features. The seats are upholstered in Volcano Brown Alcantara and Nappa leather, with the "wolf and castle" emblem of its birthplace, Wolfsburg, depicted on the headrests.

The exterior features standard equipment including 225/45R17 tires on exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, dynamic cornering lights, and dark tinted glass. The interior boasts a leather three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, leather shift knob, illuminated door sill plates, and wood decorative panels. The genuine Discover Pro infotainment system is also included as standard.

Three body colors are available for the Golf Edition 40: 400 units in the exclusive Limestone Grey Metallic, 200 units in Deep Black Pearl Effect, and 400 units in Oryx White Mother of Pearl Effect, for a total of 1,000 units. The price is ¥3,499,000, an increase of ¥340,000 over the base model. However, Oryx White Mother of Pearl Effect is a paid color option, incurring an additional ¥64,800.
