Handling and Ride Comfort Comparable to the Sedan

This new E-Class Wagon is based on the E-Class sedan, which underwent a full model change in January. Its dimensions are 4895mm in length, 1854mm in width, and 1471mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2854mm. These figures are 27mm longer and 1mm taller than the sedan. While its form is that of a station wagon, the taillights and other elements share a design image with the sedan.

The engine lineup is shared with the sedan, with a total of 10 models available, combining gasoline and diesel. All models comply with Euro 5 emissions standards. While four-wheel drive is available on some models, the basic drivetrain is rear-wheel drive.

Furthermore, the rear suspension incorporates a self-leveling function, maintaining a constant ride height regardless of the load. Combined with the "Direct Control" adaptive damping system, this achieves handling and ride comfort comparable to the sedan.

Official Debut at the September Frankfurt Motor Show

The luggage space capacity is up to 1950 liters. Usability has been further enhanced from the previous generation with features like the "Quick Fold" function for easy rear seat folding, and a system where the tonneau cover automatically retracts in sync with the power tailgate. Additionally, a sub-trunk is reportedly available beneath the luggage compartment floor.

Safety features are also on par with the sedan, offering a high level of refinement. It is equipped with a suite of world-class safety functions, including nine airbags, the "ATTENTION ASSIST" system that detects driver fatigue or drowsiness and provides alerts, and "DISTRONIC PLUS" adaptive cruise control that automatically adjusts the distance to the vehicle ahead.

This new E-Class Wagon is scheduled for its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Pricing starts at 41,947 euros (approximately 5.75 million yen) in Germany, with deliveries set to begin on November 21st.

BRAND HISTORY
When tracing the history of automobiles, we arrive at two Germans, Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz, as pioneers. It goes without saying that these two men independently created gasoline-powered automobiles between 1885 and 1886, laying the foundation for the automotive society. Their respective automotive companies were sometimes seen as rivals, but to overcome the post-World War I recession, they joined forces, and Daimler-Benz AG was established through their merger in 1926.

The name "Mercedes" given to the products originated when Emil Jellinek, a customer of Daimler's, had his eldest daughter's name used for the brand in exchange for taking over sales outside of Germany. It was registered as a trademark by Daimler in 1902.

Thus born, Mercedes, and subsequently Mercedes-Benz, have continued to lead the automotive industry by actively introducing cutting-edge technologies such as the safety passenger cell, airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), and Night View, consistently staying at the forefront of automotive development.
