Audi's Next-Generation e-Mobility Adopts New BEV Platform
Audi has unveiled the "Q6 e-tron," an electric SUV (BEV). This marks the first production model based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), a BEV platform co-developed with Porsche, and other cutting-edge technologies.
Equipped with a 100 kWh Lithium-ion Battery, Offering a Range of Up to 625 km
The Premium Platform Electric (PPE) is positioned as a pivotal technology for Audi's global expansion of its electric model lineup. The "Q6 e-tron," representing Audi's next step, has been unveiled as a premium e-mobility vehicle incorporating this technology for the first time.
Audi states that the adoption of PPE led to the development of almost all chassis systems and components from scratch. The "Q6 e-tron" is said to offer advancements in range, e-performance, and charging capabilities.
Two models are available: a rear-wheel-drive variant prioritizing driving range and an all-wheel-drive variant focused on performance. The rear-wheel-drive model boasts a system output of 387 ps (285 kW), a top speed of 210 km/h, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
Meanwhile, the all-wheel-drive model, with a system output of 516 ps (380 kW), reaches a top speed of 230 km/h and achieves 0-100 km/h acceleration in a reduced 4.3 seconds.
Both models are equipped with a newly developed 100 kWh (94.9 kWh net capacity) lithium-ion battery, offering an estimated maximum range of 625 km.
Charging technology has also evolved. With a standard battery supporting a maximum charging output of 270 kW and utilizing 800V charging, it's possible to gain approximately 255 km of range in just 10 minutes. Furthermore, charging from 10% to 80% can be achieved in about 21 minutes.
Additionally, when charging at 800V, the system intelligently splits the charge between two batteries of the same voltage. It charges them to an equal level based on their current state before switching to parallel charging, a feature designed to minimize battery degradation.
With dimensions of 4,771 mm in length, 1,939 mm in width, and 1,648 mm in height, the "Q6 e-tron" fits into the mid-size segment. The PPE platform enables a long wheelbase of 2,899 mm, providing ample legroom for rear-seat passengers.
The design language aligns with Audi's electric SUV lineup, including the "Q4 e-tron" and "Q8 e-tron." A standout feature of the "Q6 e-tron" is its world-first active digital light signature.
The "Q6 e-tron" is equipped with five domain computers powered by the newly developed "E³ 1.2" electrical architecture. These computers control all vehicle functions, from infotainment and driving assistance to future partial autonomous driving capabilities.
Controlled by one of these computers, a software module drives six OLED panels, generating new images every 10 milliseconds using a proprietary algorithm.
This integration of lighting design and new technology not only enhances safety but also allows for up to eight distinct digital light signatures, which can be customized to the driver's preference.
The interior features a three-dimensional, high-contrast design that, combined with ergonomic principles, creates a sense of spaciousness that envelops the occupants.
The trunk capacity is 526 liters, expanding to 1,529 liters when the rear seats are folded. Additionally, a 64-liter front trunk is available beneath the hood.
The display consists of an 11.9-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit and a 14.5-inch MMI Touch Display. The front passenger seat also features a 10.9-inch MMI Passenger Display with an active privacy mode, allowing for video playback.
An optional augmented reality (AR) head-up display is also available.
Audi's self-learning voice assistant can be used to operate vehicle functions. It continuously learns from user commands and behavior to support the driver.
Pricing and other details for the "Q6 e-tron" in Japan have not yet been announced.
