NISSAN SKYLINE CROSSOVER
NISSAN SKYLINE CROSSOVER
The Pinnacle of Skyline
Nissan Motor Corporation announced and released its new model, the "Skyline Crossover," on July 13, 2009. It is a new generation of SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) emphasizing fluid lines, powered by a 3.7-liter V6 engine.

Available in 4WD and Rear-Wheel Drive
The Skyline Crossover is a luxury vehicle sold as the EX37 under the Infiniti brand in the United States and Europe. In Japan, it has been positioned as the "pinnacle of the Skyline, a traditional brand with 52 years of history since its launch" (Toshikazu Shiga, COO of Nissan Motor Corporation). With the arrival of the Crossover, the Skyline lineup expands to three models, alongside the sedan and coupe.
The engine is a 3696cc V6 DOHC "VQ37VHR" producing 330 horsepower. While typically intake air volume is adjusted by the throttle valve during acceleration, this engine is characterized by its use of a continuously variable valve-timing and lift system. Nissan claims this reduces intake air resistance, achieving high responsiveness and economy, thus balancing power with good fuel efficiency. The transmission is a 7-speed automatic with a manual mode. Two drive configurations are available: a 4WD version incorporating the electronic torque-split "ATTESA E-TS," and a rear-wheel drive version.
Nissan explains that the "Crossover" in the name signifies the integration of the strengths of two distinct vehicle types: the fluid lines of a coupe combined with the functionality of an SUV. In addition to meticulous attention to body details, the interior space, design, choice of materials, and overall craftsmanship exude a high level of quality. This is the result of a dedicated effort to imbue the vehicle with value commensurate with its price, starting at 4.2 million yen for the most basic grade.
Two Technologies Worth Noting
Furthermore, two noteworthy technologies have been adopted. One is the "Around View Monitor," standard on the 370GT type P and 370GT FOUR type P. This system provides an overhead view of the vehicle on an in-cabin monitor, allowing the driver to intuitively grasp the surrounding conditions. While this popular feature has been available on several models, including the Elgrand, it now includes a new "Parking Guide Function" that uses top-view images and audio to guide the driver through optimal parking procedures, indicating the starting position for reversing and steering angle. Additionally, the "Front/Rear Wide View Function" allows for a 180-degree view to both the front and rear. This provides drivers with peace of mind, especially at intersections with poor visibility.
The other new technology is the "Lane Departure Prevention System" and "Lane Departure Warning." If the vehicle begins to deviate from its lane unintentionally, the system alerts the driver with a buzzer and display. It can also automatically control the brakes on each wheel to generate a force that returns the vehicle to its lane, prompting prompt driver action. This is available as a manufacturer's option.
The Skyline Crossover, which "realizes the joy of driving safely and comfortably" (COO Shiga), is fully equipped with these safety systems in addition to a powerful engine and a suspension system that enables sporty driving. It is a luxury SUV that offers a crossover of performance and comfort.
