Citroën has unveiled a new model of its C3 hatchback in Europe, a car that has garnered attention for its distinctive interior and exterior design.

The "Zenith" Windshield

The first-generation C3 debuted in 2002. It was characterized by its unique and high-quality exterior and interior, along with a class-leading spacious cabin. Initially offered only as a five-door hatchback, a two-door convertible version, the Pluriel, was later added.

The most striking feature of the newly announced model is undoubtedly its enormous windshield. Dubbed "Zenith," this windshield extends up to the roof, offering exceptional visibility and a sense of openness. According to Citroën's announcement, the forward field of vision for front occupants can expand by up to 80 degrees.

Naturally, comprehensive measures have been taken to address potential issues arising from this windshield's design, such as protection from sunlight and UV rays, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) control to mitigate road noise entering the cabin due to the increased glass area.

Furthermore, this new C3 exhibits design elements that suggest a connection with the "DS3" scheduled for release in 2010, including its front mask, a two-tone "Thermotec" dashboard, and satin grey aluminum trim panels.

Official Debut at September's Frankfurt Motor Show

The body dimensions are 3940mm in length and 1710mm in width. While slightly larger than the first generation, it retains its maneuverability with a minimum turning radius of 5.1m. Within this body, it offers ample space for four adults to relax comfortably and a trunk capacity of 300 liters, inheriting the excellent qualities of its predecessor.

Initially, the engine lineup will feature a 1.6-liter inline-4 diesel engine (achieving a class-leading CO2 emission level of 99g/km). Subsequently, a new generation of inline-3 diesel engines is slated for introduction by 2011. These new engines will be paired with a 5/6-speed 2-pedal manual transmission and an idling stop function, with projected CO2 emissions further reduced to 90-95g. The new C3 is being developed to achieve top-in-class environmental performance.

The new C3 is scheduled for its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, with its European release commencing in November.
