An Eco & Sporty New Model
Volkswagen has unveiled the Concept Bluesports, a new-generation open-sport concept car that combines the driving dynamics of a sports car with excellent fuel efficiency.
By Giraffe
2.0-Liter Direct-Injection Diesel Turbo
The engine adopted to achieve maximum dynamic performance with minimal fuel consumption is a 2.0-liter direct-injection diesel turbo. Its specifications are a maximum output of 180 ps and a maximum torque of 35.7 kgm, paired with a 6-speed DSG.
By combining this highly efficient engine with a body weighing just 1150 kg, achieved through a lightweight design, the power-to-weight ratio reaches 6.6 ps/kg. It records 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 226 km/h.
Fuel economy is announced to be 4.3 liters per 100 km (23.3 km/l), achieved through the introduction of an idling stop mechanism and energy regeneration system named "Eco Mode."
Exterior Design by Walter de Silva
The exterior design is the work of Design Director Walter de Silva, who also created the new Golf and Scirocco. The compact body, measuring 3990mm long, 1750mm wide, and 1260mm high with a wheelbase of 2430mm, features design elements common to the latest Volkswagens, such as upward-sweeping headlights and front grille. Combined with its low and wide silhouette, it presents a highly sporty impression.
Although there were rumors of development being halted, test drives for select journalists and the release of additional photos suggest that development for commercial production is progressing.
This new model, achieving both eco-friendliness and sportiness, has not been officially announced, but we eagerly await its rumored market launch in 2012.
