Inline-6 and V8 Twin-Turbo Engines

First introduced in 1977, this is the fifth generation of the BMW 7 Series. Its most notable characteristic is an exterior design that blends presence, sportiness, and elegance befitting a flagship model.

Compared to the previous generation, the width remains the same, but the overall length has increased by 30mm. However, changes to the headlight design and a slightly lower grille position emphasize a wide and low stance, enhancing its sporty appeal. The dynamic, sculpted proportions fully express its elegant presence.

The interior is functional and simple, balancing driving pleasure with comfort, while also conveying a sense of luxury and high quality. The use of premium materials, meticulously chosen for every detail, offers occupants an unparalleled luxurious experience.

The 740i and 740Li are powered by a 3.0-liter inline-6 twin-turbo engine producing a maximum output of 326ps at 5800rpm and peak torque of 45.9kgm at 1500-4500rpm. This unit is an evolution of the existing twin-turbo engine, with detailed revisions that increase output by approximately 7% and torque by about 15%. Despite this, it achieves approximately 12% better fuel economy and a 13% reduction in CO2 emissions, marking a significant advancement in environmental performance. Meanwhile, the 750i and 750Li feature a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine delivering a maximum output of 407ps at 5500rpm and peak torque of 61.2kgm at 1750-4500rpm.

Hybrid Model Debuts in 2010

Another key feature of the new 7 Series is the inclusion of numerous amenities tailored for the Japanese market.
These include BMW's first integrated digital TV tuner and a navigation system developed exclusively for Japan. The establishment of a dedicated team in Japan for even more refined services underscores the company's strong focus on the Japanese market.

Pricing starts at 10.1 million yen for the base model "740i" equipped with the 3.0-liter inline-6 engine, and the top-grade "750Li" with the 4.4-liter V8 engine is priced at 13.3 million yen. The "740Li" is scheduled for release after June.

Furthermore, in 2010, BMW's first hybrid model, the BMW ActiveHybrid, will be introduced to the Japanese market. This model combines the V8 twin-turbo engine found in the 750i and 750Li with an electric motor. It achieves approximately 15% better fuel economy and a 15% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the gasoline-only version, while also enhancing performance. Its launch is eagerly anticipated.
